Excerpts from the proposed plan... Primary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in infants remains a controversial topic, yet is gaining more widespread acceptance .... This technique has the advantage that most pediatric ophthalmologists and even general ophthalmologists could easily be trained to perform this procedure. This could be a tremendous step to help eliminate childhood blindness in the United States and other countries from congenital cataracts. Our mission is to further study the long term results of this technique and the ability to implement training to Ophthalmologists in the United States and other countries to perform this method of restoring vision to our youngest and most vulnerable individuals: infants who may never get a second chance for vision.

Here is the full report on DCI's future eye research project for childhood blindness prevention.
